How to make a Layered Drink:
Layering drinks is all about the sugar content. The liquid with the most sugar will immediately sink to the bottom layer. For the Malibu sunset cocktail, the grenadine syrup has the highest sugar content. The Grenadine will always sink to the bottom of the glass. The rest of the liquids will float on top.
The Grenadine should be slowly poured into the drink after the other ingredients are added. Use a spoon to slowly drizzle the Grenadine down the side of the glass. Be careful not to stir the the ingredients, the layers will easily mix together and lose the layered effect. Serve immediately after mixing.
The Malibu Cocktail is easy to make into layers as we have pictured. The video shows you how.
Learn the simple trick of layering the ingredients and your friends will all be asking how you did it. Fun, easy and perfect party eye candy.

- To make this yummy drink, simply put 3-4 ice cubes in the bottom of a glass.

My husband was so impressed. This drink is dangerously delicious. Thank you so much for sharing.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for the wonderful comment!
Great drink! Good combination of flavors. Can barley taste any liquor in it. I decided to use parrot bay coconut rum the second time, its a bit cheaper and quite bit stronger with the same flavors and got the same result and the drink still had a subtle taste of alcohol.
Oh yum! I haven’t tried parrot bay before! Thanks for the suggestion, I’m so glad you enjoyed the drink! 🙂
How much rum?
Hi Jane, You will need 1/4 Cup. Thank you for asking. We recently updated the recipe card and it did not properly import. Have a great day!
I want to make this for about 20 people. How much of each ingredient do I use.
Well I’ve never made if for a large group of people before, but I would use 2 bottles of pineapple juice, 1 bottle of rum, and 1/2 bottle of grenadine to make it. If you are making it in a large punch bowl, that ratio should work. Just taste test as you go to make sure it isn’t too strong or sweet! Have fun!
This has been a favorite drink of mine for years. While visiting Belize, our tour guide talked about this drink, which was a regular for me, but he called it the “panty ripper”.
My husband thought he’d be smart and order it by that nakpme back home and of course the bartender thought he was nuts.
I find it refreshing anytime of year.
Haha Lori, That’s a good story. I can so picture sipping this drink in Belize. Wonderful setting!
You’re NOT gonna believe this story: I’m working today at the liquor store and this lady, Shelly, came in for a Malibu recipe. So, I googled it and she picked this one.
I was like OMG! That’s my sister’s site!
